It's estimated that
2.4 % of all fires are candle related*

From the Wall Street Journal to the nightly news, candle safety is becoming a growing national concern. With seven out of ten U.S. households using candles, the chance for candle related fires and safety hazards continues to grow accordingly.

The Problem
Many people burn candles unattended or burn them all the way to the bottom against the recommendations of most manufacturers. And, a candle can catch fire (called flashover) when debris such as matches and wick trimmings etc. are left in the wax pool as it burns to the bottom.

A New Solution
Hearth & Home Traditions Ltd.® in Norwich, Ohio, is taking aim at these candle safety issues with the introduction of the company's new, patented wick holder.

The Test

a. This photo** illustrates an improperly burned candle without the wick holder. The flame burned too low and resulted in a candle fire.

b. This candle** has been burned too low, but the new wick holder put the flame out before it reached a dangerous level.

Our 1/2" wick holder is made of solid steel. Hearth & Home worked for more than two years to perfect its design and performance.

This tiny metal device improves candle safety by supporting the flame one half inch above the base of the candle. In addition, it prevents wax (the fuel for the candle) from traveling up the wick once the candle has burned too low, thus reducing the risk of candle fires and flashovers.

Looking Ahead At Candle Safety
George Pappas Sr., president of Hearth & Home, believes the wick holder is the first important step in increasing candle safety. "We can't control consumer misuse, so we can't promise that it will extinguish every candle. We can promise that this is the safest candle we can make and in most cases it will be much safer if a candle is misused."

The new wick holder is an added measure of safety that you'll find in all the new Hearth & Home Cake Candles™. Look for the Safe At Home® logo to be sure you are getting the safest product possible.
